A TALK ON CHANGE FROM A PATIENT'S PERSPECTIVE

When the familiar stops working.

How can we regain a sense of control when illness changes our lives?

Wojciech Szewczykowski holding a microphone in front of an audience

Illness changes plans, relationships and everyday activities. What once came naturally suddenly has to be learnt again. A question arises: what can I still influence, and where can I begin?

After losing my natural voice, I had to learn a new way of speaking. Returning to work and the stage meant repeated attempts, difficulties and small steps forward. I needed determination, time, help from others and acceptance that I would do some things differently.

I talk about loss, acceptance and regaining a sense of control where that is still possible. About finding your own way of living in circumstances changed by illness. I share experiences that may help people put their questions into words and see a possible next step.

Everyone's situation and pace are different. This story leaves room for uncertainty, tiredness, support from loved ones and satisfaction in small improvements. Returning to an active life can take many forms.
